Our Dream and More
We are a small cut flower 9-acre farm in beautiful Linden, Virginia. We started this journey after purchasing our home here in 2019. Our dream was to work our land in a way that allowed us to connect with our community and help the environment.
After learning about the impacts of intensive farming on our environment - from synthetic fertilizers to harmful pesticides - we decided we would try to farm with nature, not against it. We started growing flowers last year without synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, which isn’t always easy but comes with so many rewards, like finding bees sleeping in the flowers!
When we began, we had very little farming knowledge or experience. Yet, our passion and determination kept us going and growing. We got some chickens, 2 pigs, and our Great Pyrenees to watch over them and keep the foxes away.
After a lot of discussions, we took a leap of faith and decided that Cameron would quit his job of 15 years. (I continue to work a full-time job on top of my farming duties.) Although we were scared it might not work out, we knew in our hearts that we could not reach our dream otherwise. While it's only been a few years, which came with all the complications of the covid pandemic, we've already started to glimpse how farming with nature can bring us immense joy. Cameron loves caring for the animals and plants alike, spending his days outside with them. I can't wait to join him in the near future!
